Head north from Townsville to see unique wildlife species, amazing beaches and waterholes. Follow the fitness trail at Bluewater then enjoy a picnic. If time permits, camp overnight. Further north, experience the Rollingstone Heritage Trail and take a swim at Balgal Beach.

Turn left to Paluma Rainforest Village, World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics area.Stop at McLellands Lookout and visit Little Crystal Creek for a swim, picnic and to view a classic stone bridge. At Paluma, observe the diverse bird species and go bushwalking. Enjoy tea and scones and spend the night in Paluma.

Start the day at Lake Paluma or enjoy one of the many walking trails. Continue to Hidden Valley (along the unsealed road) and enjoy the lush vegetation and cool climate. Camping and swimming on the Running River is permitted.

Escape in the open country, outback scenery and cattle stations along Hervey Range Road (unsealed road suitable for 4WD). Stop for a break at the historic Hervey Range Heritage Tea Rooms and tour the old Greenvale Rail Corridor. Experience the indigenous rock art and the walking tracks before returning to Townsville in the afternoon.
