Day 1
Ingham to Lucinda
Distance (Km): 60 Km

Starting in Ingham, head east towards Halifax through sugar country. Visit Victoria Mill, one of the largest sugar mills in the Southern Hemisphere, and Ivy Church. Take a short detour to Forrest Beach or Taylors Beach and experience spectacular island views, a swim or a picnic lunch.

After Halifax, drive to Dungeness to view Hinchinbrook Island and take a tour to the island. At Lucinda, view the largest sugar loading jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. It extends 5.7km out into the ocean and you can witness the curvature of the earth’s surface.

Stay the night in local accommodation in Lucinda, Dungeness or Halifax.


Day 2
Lucinda to Hidden Valley

Head west towards the Bruce Highway. Visit the Bemerside historic hotel. Drive south to Ingham and then west to Trebonne’s old Post Office. Travel to Australia’s Largest Waterfall , Wallaman Falls (50km each way; some unsealed road) for the Great Walks, camping, a BBQ and a swim.

Head to Stone River road along to Mt Fox National Park (75km each way; unsealed road) and experience a steep walk to the top of the volcano’s crater. Camp opposite Mount Fox cricket grounds or stay the night at Hidden Valley cabins.

Accommodation available in Hidden valley cabins or camping or continue on to Paluma for the night.


Day 3
Hidden Valley to Ingham

Start the day with a stop in Paluma, the most southerly area of World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics area. Visit the site of a World War II radar station, or have Devonshire tea and scones at a café. Stop at McLellands Lookout to see excellent coastal views, including Hinchinbrook Island. Visit Little Crystal Creek, a popular swimming and picnic area, and see Crystal Creek Bridge, a classic stone bridge built in 1930. This area is well-known for excellent bird-watching opportunities – enjoy a bush walk and keep your eyes open for birds!

On the way back north towards Ingham, stop at the renowned ‘Frosty Mango’ for an exotic fruit ice-cream. 15km south of Ingham is the turn-off to Jourama Falls (6km each way; some unsealed road), offering great views and walking tracks. On arrival in Ingham visit the Tyto Wetlands, located close to the town centre. Enjoy a walk through this unique 90-hectare natural wetland site.

Local Tip: Venture out to Tyto Wetlands between 5:30pm and 6:30pm to view hundreds of Agile Wallabies.
