Mission Beach & The Cassowary Coast
As you travel this section of the Great Tropical Drive you experience the changing natural beauty of the Wet Tropics region. The area has a relaxed lifestyle and offers visitors a wide range of experiences from relaxing on a deserted beach, sampling delicious exotic fruits and wines, or the adrenaline rush of white water rafting on the Tully River.
At the southern gateway, Cardwell is one of the area’s best boating and fishing spots and looks out to the untamed natural beauty of Hinchinbrook Island, Australia’s largest island national park.
As you travel north you pass through forests and farms with a background of lush green mountains always in view. Surrounded by banana and sugar cane plantations, Tully is one of the wettest towns in Australia and the proud home of a 7.9 metre high Golden Gumboot.
Mission Beach with its 14km of golden sandy beaches and nearby rainforest is the perfect place for a relaxing, tropical holiday. The area has many delightful rainforest walks, restaurants, beachside cafes and is just 50 minutes from the Great Barrier Reef.
At the northern gateway, Innisfail with its rich heritage of art deco buildings and strong multicultural community is the region’s main shopping centre.
The Ma:Mu Canopy Walkway, just a short drive from Innisfail is an experience not to be missed.
